Dan + Shay Forgot Something Major When Planning Their Strategy on The Voice
Being the first Coach duo on The Voice certainly comes with some challenges.
The first-ever Coach duo on The Voice, Dan + Shay (Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney), have some tricky things to maneuver when it comes to communicating on the set of Season 25.
In a recent interview with NBC Insider, Mooney talked about the plan he and Smyers hatched out to decide when they'd press their singular red button during Blind Auditions.
''We’re still trying to figure that out. Hopefully not in real time. During the flight out of here, we were like, 'Alright, double tap's gonna mean one thing. We’re gonna do, like, a wink,''' he said.
However, there's one major caveat that slipped their mind. ''[The] thing you forget about when you’re strategizing like that is that there are cameras on you at all times, there are microphones on you at all times, so that kinda goes out the window. There have been times where we’re sitting there, then you think about it. 'Oh man, their families are literally watching this on screen,''' he added.

That said, the two are so close-knit that they can almost read each other's minds.
''We're on the same page," Mooney said. "We've been doing this for 10 years and I feel like we finish each other's...''
''Sentences.'' Smyers chimed in.
Why Dan + Shay are so excited to be Coaches on The Voice
In the interview, Mooney also talked about what their Coach debut means to them as Artists.
''The fact that they made this for us is a huge honor. It's pretty wild.'' he said, referring to the first Double Chair in The Voice U.S.'s history.
''It really is such a pleasure and reminds us how blessed we are to be in this position that we even have a shot at getting to do this show. It’s so much fun to be able to learn. We're genuinely fans of every single one these wonderful people, [and] just being able to be in this family,'' he added.

Mooney continued, ''This is an incredible opportunity for us to live in this space. It's another creative outlet. This reminds us how lucky we are. It really breeds a lot of gratitude for being able to be an Artist, and you get to meet these incredibly excited people that are having this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And it excites you for music and it inspires you in your own artistry.
