Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson Sang a New Version of '9 to 5,' and It's Perfect
Heading to work isn't so bad if you've got this track on repeat.
Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson have released a new duet version of Parton's classic song "9 to 5," and it's as perfect as you'd expect.
The track is simply breathtaking—a slowed-down and mesmerizing take on the typically-upbeat tune. From the very first notes, listeners will recognize those tell-tale Parton notes paired perfectly with Clarkson's signature vocal style.
The song was created for the 2022 documentary Still Working 9 to 5, which explores the making of the hit 1980 comedy 9 to 5. The original film features a star-studded cast of Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin as three working-class women seeking to overthrow their sexist and tyrannical boss.
Still Working 9 to 5 explores the real-life events and movements inspired by both the film and its signature song. It's an inside look into the 40-year evolution of discrimination and gender equality in the workplace since the film's 1980 release.
The poignancy of the topic is precisely why Clarkson and Parton's new "9 to 5" is emotional, arresting, and introspective. Of course, Clarkson has impressed fans with her Kellyoke covers time and time again on The Kelly Clarkson Show, but Parton and Clarkson coming together for an iconic duet is a simply unforgettable collaboration.
Season 4 of The Kelly Clarkson Show premieres September 12. “I can’t believe it’s already Season 4!" Clarkson says about her talk show. "We are feeling so blessed by all the support we’ve received and are feeling so inspired and excited to keep connecting with y’all. I had a great summer off, but I missed my team and we are refueled and ready to have some fun and highlight some incredible stories and people!”
