Who Are Kelly Clarkson’s 2 Adorable Children? All the Details About Her Sweet Family Life

Although they've yet to enter double digits, Kelly Clarkson's children, River Rose and Remington Alexander, have already enjoyed some time in the spotlight.

Kelly Clarkson is a world-renowned pop singer, talk show host, and  former Coach on The Voice, but one of her favorite roles? Being a mom.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Clarkson is the mother of two children, daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander, and has made it clear over the years that her children take priority.

“Both of my kiddos backstage getting ready to join me on stage in Vegas,” she wrote in an Instagram post this month alongside a cute shot of River and Remington with their arms around each other. “Nothing will ever be as cool and amazing as these two little humans that will always have my whole heart.”

How old are Kelly Clarkson’s children?

Clarkson's children, Remy and River, are 9 and 7, respectively.

Kelly Clarkson welcomed daughter River Rose into the world on June 12, 2014 in Nashville, according to PEOPLE.

Just six months later, Clarkson’s mini-me was already making waves in the music business as she adorably teased her mom’s new single, “Heartbeat Song.” Clarkson released a video of the baby in the studio wearing adult-sized headphones as she happily kicked her legs to the new tune, E! News reported in 2015.

Today, 9-year-old River is still willing to lend a hand to her famous mother.

She’s reportedly featured on Clarkson’s new track “you don’t make me cry,” which will be released next month as part of a deluxe version of Clarkson’s newest album, Chemistry.

Clarkson’s son, Remington “Remy” Alexander, joined the family on April 12, 2016, and was quickly embraced by his big sister.

“The big sis love is real,” Clarkson tweeted that year alongside a photo of a then-2-year-old River holding her brother.

Now 7, Remington recently joined his mother out on stage during her Las Vegas residency to sing her track “Whole Lotta Woman” from the 2017 album Meaning of Life.

“Are you ready to dance?” Clarkson asked him. “We have dances all the time at our house. We put a little disco ball on, and we just dance.”

River also took the stage to perform (what else?) the “Heartbeat Song” with her mom.

What has Kelly Clarkson said about her Children?

Clarkson opened up about her children’s “different” personalities in 2017 while serving as a guest co-host on Today with Hoda Kotb.

“They’re not shy at all, but they’re just different,” she said, according to PEOPLE. “He could care less that you’re in the room, and she wants everybody to know she’s in there.”

She went on to describe River as bold.

“She’s so cute, but she can work it y’all….it’s scary foreshadowing,” she said. “I don’t want my daughter to be a pushover when she’s older. So that’s an awesome thing, it’s an awesome aspect of her character.”

Like her mom, River isn’t one to shy away from the spotlight and went as her mom’s date last year to the People’s Choice Awards.

When Clarkson won Daytime Talk Show of 2022 for The Kelly Clarkson Show, she made sure to give a shout out to her pint-size plus-one.

"I'm having a date night with my daughter, River Rose!" she told the crowd. " ... I'm going to go have ice cream with my baby girl!"

Earlier this year, Clarkson opened up on her talk show about her daughter’s dyslexia.  As PEOPLE reported, Clarkson shared that her daughter had been “getting bullied at school for not being able to read like all the other kids.”

Henry Winkler, who, aside from his many acting gigs has also written more than 30 children’s books, is also dyslexic and had an important message for River during the show.

River! How you learn has nothing to do with how brilliant you are," he said.

River isn’t the only one of Clarkson’s children to face some challenges. As a baby, Remington had some hearing issues that delayed his speech.

“He had a speech problem because he had this ear problem when he was a baby. We didn’t know,” she told PEOPLE in 2020. “But way deep down in his ears, he got clogged up with a ton of wax where we thought, almost, he was deaf because he spoke as if he was underwater.”

The issue is now resolved and Remington’s adorable personality is often on full display in photos or video clips posted by his mom.

“They both are little entertainers,” she told E! News in June. “They love pretend. They love make believe and creating worlds.”

Where do Kelly Clarkson and her children live?

After years of living in Los Angeles, Clarkson announced this year that she was moving her talk show — and family — to New York City for a change of pace.

She shared on the Las Culturistas podcast in June that her children have each had their own reaction to the move.

"My son is very excited. My daughter, I'm still winning over. It's not New York, it's the fact that she just has friends," Clarkson explained. "Now my son is like, 'My friends will be fine, let's go.' He loves New York."

Regardless of where they call home, Clarkson told E! News the “coolest part” about having children is giving them the opportunities that she didn’t have growing up.

“I think that’s the most incredible thing, just show them everything that you think might be helpful and see where they go,” she said.
