Jaelen Johnston isn't just an Artist, he's a gentleman. The well-mannered Southerner charmed the Coaches during his Blind Audition for The Voice Season 27 with his "sirs" and "ma'ams," not to mention his rich, deep vocals. In the Battle round, he took it even further, performing so suavely, the whole audience fell in love.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Why Jaelen Johnston's voice made Kelsea Ballerini want to "kill" whoever hurt him

Coach Kelsea Ballerini assigned Johnston "Neon Moon" by Brooks & Dunn, a song he said was played "all the time" during bonfires when he was growing up. Being on The Voice, he added, "means the world to me" and "means the world to [his family]."

After the performance, all three of the male Coaches found themselves deeply impressed by Johnston's lower range, with falsetto king Adam Levine even saying, "I don't even feel like a man anymore." John Legend commented, "The richness in your voice, the texture in it, is so special," and Michael Bublé agreed, saying, "I found that to be such a romantic performance."

Ballerini was especially impressed with his emotionality. "Jaelen, you sing like you've had your heart broken, and I mean that in a good way," she told him, joking that whoever hurt him, "I'll kill her." She gave him the win for the Battle and theorized, "Country music's gonna be like, 'Where have you been and why aren't you on our label?'"

After his Blind Audition, the 21-year-old singer, songwriter, and guitar player had the perfect response when asked what his end goal is: "Up until today it was a chair turn."

"You’re too good for me to have not turned my chair around. The tone of your voice is so unmistakably full and strong," Levine said at the time.

John Legend praised Kelsea Ballerini's recruiting skills

Though she's new, Ballerini has been exceeding expectations as a Coach — even John Legend has taken notice.

"She really does a great job of selling herself in the Blinds," Legend explained during an early episode. "It's funny because as Artists who make records and tour and all that stuff, we have to sell ourselves, but it's different when you're, like, 'Please pick me as your Coach'… But Kelsea just came in here and was able to do it right away."

You can watch The Voice Season 27 on Mondays at 8/7c on NBC. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
