Kelly Clarkson & John Legend's Voices Are a Heavenly Match Singing Nat King Cole
The two The Voice Coaches' tones complemented each other perfectly.
Back in 2019, when Kelly Clarkson and John Legend were both Coaches on The Voice, Clarkson appeared on Legend's YouTube series, "Trailer Talk," to perform a gorgeous duet with him: Nat King Cole's "Smile."
Legend referred to Nat King Cole as one of his ''biggest influences,'' which is why he and Clarkson chose to sing Cole's classic tune ''Smile.'' During their cover, Clarkson crooned the introduction lyrics while Legend played the piano. Legend then took over, singing with a heavenly tone.
Listen to their lovely rendition here.
Clarkson is certainly familiar with the song, as she performed in again in November 2023 as a Kellyoke segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show. During her solo version, she sang in a warm, cozy tone that'll make you want to curl up by a fireplace. Check it out here.

What to know about ''Smile'' by Nat Kong Cole
The music to ''Smile'' was composed by Charlie Chaplin for his 1936 film Modern Times. Nat King Cole's version was the first to be released with lyrics, and it reached the number-10 position on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, according to American Songwriter.
In 2023, the outlet also named ''Smile'' as the fifth best Nat King Cole song. "Cole could uplift even the saddest soul with the way he sings 'Smile.' His voice is simply stunning, shining alongside lyrics that encourage you to find hope even if your heart is breaking or light up your face with gladness to dissipate the sorrow," the outlet wrote of the tune. "It’s easily one of his most memorable and beloved [songs]."
''Smile'' has since covered by Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Barbara Streisand, Michael Buble, Michael Bolton, Elvis Costello, Josh Groban, and more.
