Kelly Clarkson Belted Out Her Hit "Since U Been Gone" with a Very Special Guest
This latest Kellyoke from the Voice Coach will take you back in time.
Kelly Clarkson shook things up for today's Kellyoke!
While we typically hear Clarkson put her own twist on some show-stopping covers on her show, this time, she gave the crowd a treat by performing one of her beloved original hits "Since U Been Gone". And she brought on Broadway star Lorna Courtney for an amazing duet of the track.
During the performance, Clarkson and Courtney switched back and forth while singing the first verse, while Clarkson nailed the first chorus. They then harmonized together during the bridge, while Courtney hit the song's signature ultra high belted note.
"I love singing with you!" Clarkson told Courtney.
What to know about Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone".
"Since U Been Gone" is one of Clarkson's signature songs and OG hits. It was released in 2004 from her second studio album "Breakaway", and reached the number one position on the Billboard charts in 2005. Better yet, Rolling Stone listed the song at the 93rd position in its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" 2021 list. The outlet described the tune as a "career-making hit that gave teen pop a feisty new template," while noting the impressive belted high notes that Clarkson managed to hit during the chorus.
During a 2017 appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Clarkson revealed that she had a heavy hand in helping shape the song's production and arrangement.
"I really think if we're gonna go this route, you gotta go for it. We gotta have guitars, y'all," Clarkson said about the song's daring rock edge.
Who Is Lorna Courtney?
Lorna Courtney is a Broadway musical theater actress. She is currently playing the lead role, Juliet, in the hit new Broadway musical &Juliet, which tells the story of how the classic tale, Romeo and Juliet, would have turned out if the two lovers didn't take their lives. The soundtrack of &Juliet is composed of an arrangement of classic pop hits created by music producer Max Martin, and "Since U Been Gone" is one of them. Courtney also played Rosalia in "West Side Story" and Alana in "Dear Evan Hansen" on Broadway.
Last year, Courtney performed a rendition of "Roar" by Katy Perry on America's Got Talent. She also appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to sing a number off of &Juliet that is a mashup of "Problem" by Ariana Grande and "Can't Feel My Face" by The Weeknd.
