Hear Putri Ariani's Unbelievable High Notes That Left Simon Cowell "Speechless"
The AGT 18 Golden Buzzer sang U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" for the Live Show.
When we first saw Putri Ariani, the 17-year-old songstress from Indonesia ended up singing two songs for her Audition. The first was an original, and the second — upon Simon Cowell taking the stage to request a second track — was Elton John’s “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word."
The ladder led to Cowell awarding Ariani with his Golden Buzzer of the season, a decision we doubt he regrets as the teen savant (who is blind) was voted into the Top 2 in the third week of Live Shows along with the Mzansi Youth Choir. This means she is officially in the Top 11 and will compete in the September Finale for the $1 million prize.
"He supported me, and because of his Golden Buzzer my life has changed beautifully," she told NBC Insider.
What song did Putri Ariani sing during the Live Shows?
Ariani sang U2's 1987 single, "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" during September 5's Live Show.
She blew the crowd away with a performance that started out a capella, letting her voice shine on its own. She then started playing the piano, hitting incredibly powerful high notes that left the Judges in shock.
"I think I always search a song by the meaning," she tells us. " And I think that this song means a lot when people don't know what actually we're looking for in this life. But because of AGT, I know that what I'm looking for in this life."
Continuing to talk about her performance Ariani said, "I just can't find a words to describe how grateful I am and how happy I am in this time. It was so wonderful and [a] magical moment."
What the Judges said about Putri Ariani
Simon Cowell: "I'm actually kind of speechless right now. You know what, what I was thinking was first of all what a beautiful voice you've got. What a beautiful version. Honestly Putri, this is why I still do this job for moments like this. Genuinely. That was so beautiful, and I don wanna thank U2 because they don't clear their songs. I understand, a lot of bands don't clear their songs. But they cleared this song for Putri to sing because hey saw her audition, and they knew how much this would mean to her."
Sofia Vergara: "I don't think I've ever heard something more beautiful in my life. That was spectacular, every note, the feeling. What you were making us feel. It was amazing, one of my favorite songs of all time. I think this was the perfect, perfect, perfect Act."
Heidi Klum: "You sounded so beautiful and I thought to myself this is probably what it sounds like when an angle is singing. Literally. So beautiful, and I do hope that Bono gets to hear this. I wish you all the luck."
Howie Mandel: "Perfection!"
What's next for Putri Ariani
When asked what she'd do with the $1 million prize if she won, Ariani revealed some exciting plans.
"Of course, for my career and my education, I really want to have a world tour," she said. "And I would buy a castle and get a grand piano."
