Susan Boyle's Cover of "When You Wish Upon a Star" Will Fully Transport You

The Britain's Got Talent fan favorite sounds absolutely magical on this song.

By Christopher Rosa

Britain's Got Talent and AGT alum Susan Boyle has a knack for taking beloved ballads and singing them in ways that feel warm and familiar but also completely her. Just listen to her takes on "Hallelujah," "I Dreamed a Dream,"  and "I'll Be Home for Christmas" if you want proof.

How to Watch

Watch America’s Got Talent on NBC and Peacock

That said, one of her most transportive covers has to be "When You Wish Upon a Star," which she released on her 2016 album A Wonderful World. The beloved lyrics to the song already have a magical quality to them, but Boyle manages to elevate the wonderment even more. What you're left with is a version of the track that truly takes you to another universe.

But don't take our word for it. Listen to Boyle's version of "When You Wish Upon a Star" further down this article.

Fans first met Boyle back on Britain's Got Talent in 2009 when she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Mis and went completely viral.

“I’ll never forget this,” BGT and AGT Judge Simon Cowell told Terry Crews while re-watching a clip from Boyle's original BGT Audition during a 2023 episode of America's Got Talent. “I was having a terrible, terrible day, and I remember saying, ‘I really, really hope she’s not gonna sing,’ because there were so many bad singers that day and I thought, ‘I just can’t take another one.’”

"Our expectations were quite low, but she is the perfect example of never judge a book by its cover," Cowell added  "She is just the most incredible person. This was a lady who lived on her own in Scotland, and she came on the show and everything changed. Because up until that point, there was a perception that you had to look this way, or be this age, and she just changed the rulebook. Full stop."

About "When You Wish Upon a Star"

"When You Wish Upon a Star" was written by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington for the 1940 Disney movie Pinocchio. It's since become emblematic of Disney's entire brand and universe and has been covered by everyone from Gene Simmons to Kelly Clarkson
