What Happened to Torres on Chicago P.D.? Why He's Missing
Fans couldn't help but notice that Officer Torres has been mysteriously absent from the last two episodes.
The latest episode of Chicago P.D. Season 12 — Episode 17's "Transference" — was a complex Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) focused hour. We saw him help lead the Intelligence Unit's investigation into an armed robbery that was also strangely connected to his latest love interest Val (Natalee Linez), a forensics psychologist.
However, as the case unfolded, fans couldn't help but notice that one member of the Intelligence Unit was mysteriously missing in action. Read on to find out what we know.
Where was Torres on Season 12, Episode 17 of Chicago P.D.?
Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) has been missing in both Episodes 16 and 17 this season. So, what happened to him? The answer came in a brief scene in "Transference" between Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Cook (Toya Turner).
A concerned Cook asked Burgess about where Torres was, and she answered: "He took a couple of comp days off."
When asked why, she responded, "I don't know, he didn't say."

Is Torres coming back to Chicago P.D.?
While Burgess' answer doesn't completely ease our worries, we can confirm that Torres is returning next week in Episode 18.
Though he's missed, we can't blame him for wanting to take a temporary break. This season has been incredibly emotionally taxing on the officer. Not only was his relationship with Gloria Perez exposed, but he also found out that she had graduated to being a drug boss after being his C.I. in Season 11.
"It's one of those relationships that there's no way back anymore," Aguilar told NBC Insider. "It's crossed that toxic line. They can't be together. It's more of a different type of love at this point. There's so many mixed feelings, but definitely the love is there."
He tragically had to witness her murder.

In Episode 12's "The Good Shepherd," he goes undercover at the juvenile detention center he was once held at as a teen. Of course, this brings up all kinds of trauma for Torres, while he also has to find a way to help the minors who were actively being abused at the facility. Throughout the episode, the cop frequently visits church and desperately seeks to atone for the sins of his past and present that fans have seen unfold since his time on the show.
When explaining Torres' mindset as he faces obstacles this season, Aguilar said, "[He's] just trying to find his way through what he did, the things that he did wrong, the things that he can't understand. There's a lot of anxiety, a lot of fear, a lot of self hate, just a lot of turmoil."
