Magical! Wicked Debuts as Streaming's No. 1 Film; Oz Prequel Sets Peacock Record
Wicked put up some positively wicked numbers on the streaming charts.
Director Jon M. Chu's Wicked is now the most-streamed movie for the week of March 17-23, 2025 with 882 million minutes viewed in its first seven days on Peacock, according to early Nielsen data.
Wicked tops streaming charts in first week on Peacock
The long-awaited film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical is also the most-watched Pay 1 movie in the history of the NBCUniversal platform. This is the second time a Universal-distributed blockbuster has dominated Nielsen's streaming charts after Christopher Nolan's Oscar-winning Oppenheimer hit Peacock in early 2024.

Additionally, Wicked drummed up the biggest advertiser presence for any Pay 1 on Peacock to date. Per the release, "NBCUniversal sold its most Pay 1 movie advertising spots ever with 16 brand partners — Adobe, Airbnb, Audible, Comcast, Hims, Lexus, Liquid IV, Nutrafol, Princess Cruise Lines, Rocket Mortgage, State Farm, Target, T-Mobile USA, Turbo Tax, Universal Orlando and Wayfair."
What is Wicked about?
Serving as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz fans know and alove, Wicked tells the story of the young woman destined to become the dreaded Wicked Witch of the West. Before gaining that infamous monicker, however, she was just Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), a green-skinned outcast studying magic at Shiz University and forming a close friendship with Glinda the Good (Ariana Grande). Their paths ultimately diverge deep inside the Emerald City when they learn meet the venerated Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and learn the terrible truth about the man's inflated reputation.
Wicked grossed over $744 million worldwide, making it the most successful film adaptation of a Broadway musical in Hollywood history. Its awards season acclaim recently culminated in three Oscar wins: Best Costume Design (Paul Tazewell) and Best Production Design (Nathan Crowley; Set Decoration: Lee Sandales).

Wicked will stream exclusively on Peacock through July 20, 2025 alongside a number of bonus features, including deleted scenes and a sing-along version of the feature presentation. The film is also available to own and/or rent on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
