Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani Reveal the Simple Reason Their Relationship Works

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have been a couple for seven years, and they celebrated their first wedding anniversary in July 2022. That's almost a whole decade of love—so how have the famous musicians been making it work? 

Camila Cabello decided to do some investigating on The Voice Season 22, Episode 5, where they're all Coaches alongside John Legend. "I can't believe you guys have been together for seven years," Cabello told Shelton and Stefani in between Blind Auditions, her admiration palpable. "What's the key, guys?" 

"I don't know what the secret is," Shelton said before Stefani added, "There is [no secret]. We just are best friends." 

To this, John Legend added, "My observation of them is they genuinely really like each other." 

That's a good starting place for any relationship, we'd say. But don't get it twisted: Just because Stefani and Shelton are in a loving marriage doesn't mean they're going easy on each other as Coaches. 

"It doesn't matter [if we're] married or not. We're in a competition, and I'm back to win it again," Stefani said. 

Of course, the "Hollaback Girl" may just be talking tough. Shelton revealed to NBC Insider she actually isn't that competitive. 

"The best part about working with my wife is that I never have to be apart from her," he said. "And she also happens to be one of the least competitive people I know. Being on a competition show with your wife, who is also not competitive, is the greatest situation you can be in."
