Carrie Underwood & John Legend's Cover of Blake Shelton's "Austin" Is Transcendent

Legend invited Underwood to perform the emotional duet of Shelton's first single with him.

By Jackie Manno

In a 2023 episode of The Voice Coach John Legend's YouTube show "Trailer Talk," where he interviews and performs music covers with famous Artists, he brought on Carrie Underwood to sing a classic by Blake Shelton: "Austin."

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

In the episode, Underwood told Legend that she would love to hear his voice on a country song, so they decided to sing "Austin." Of course, Legend's piano-playing was top-notch, and the two switched back and forth on the vocals, their voices perfectly complementing each other.

About "Austin" by Blake Shelton

Released in 2001 off Shelton's debut, self-titled album, "Austin" was The Voice alum's first major hit. It reached the number-one position on the Billboard U.S. Hot Country Songs chart, and the lyrics tell the story of a man who leaves a message on his voicemail machine to his ex-girlfriend, reminding her that he still loves her.
