What to know about "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley
"Can't Help Falling in Love" is originally a track from the 1961 film Blue Hawaii, where Presley played the lead character of solider Chad Gates. The song reached the number-two position on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1962, and in 2004, Rolling Stone placed it at the number 403 position on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.
"This adaptation of Giovanni Martini's 18th-century song 'Plaisir d'Amour' was given to Presley for his movie Blue Hawaii — hence the Hawaiian steel guitar. But this was no vacation for Presley: It took him 29 takes to nail his exquisitely gentle vocals. The song became the closing number for most of his Seventies concerts," the outlet wrote of the track.
