Kelly Clarkson Channeled Stevie Nicks For Her Outfit on The Voice Battles
The Grammy award-winning singer's fashion doesn't go unnoticed as The Voice enters its Battle Rounds.
The Voice’s Coach Kelly Clarkson knows all about black velvet with that slow southern style, as the classic song goes, and she has the fashion sense to prove it.
This season, the 40-year-old “Since U Been Gone” singer turned Coach — along with alum Coach Blake Shelton and newcomer Coaches Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan — prepared for the Battle Rounds for The Voice Season 23 by bringing out an amazing outfit. Taking a page from Johnny Cash’s how-to-be-cool playbook, the longstanding Coach wore an all-black ensemble while training her team’s singers before pitting them against one another for a chance to win.
Clarkson had on a black velvet coat with dark, floral-print cuffs and puffed shoulders, accompanied by a matching choker and sautoirs (long necklaces) during the singers’ performances. Underneath was a black dress with a daring neckline and a thick leather belt with ornamental studs. Braided leather also hung from Clarkson’s neck.
Her style matched another all-black getup she wore during rehearsals, namely when working with team members Cait Martin, 33, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Ally Keck, 28, of Neoga, Illinois, for the Battle Round performance of Roxette’s “It Must Have Been Love.” During rehearsals, Clarkson wore a long black skirt, a black leather jacket with silver accents, and a noteworthy, knotted Y-shaped choker that hung down to her waist. The look was topped with a pair of gold hoop earrings.
Clarkson wore a nude lip shade for both the rehearsals and the on-stage Battles.
Of course, Clarkson is no stranger to wearing black, as seen on her Instagram page. During the Season 23 premiere and the kickoff of The Voice’s Blind Auditions, she wore a long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder black dress with gold off-centered buttons.

This week’s Battle Rounds come after Clarkson hand-picked her 10-person team from the Blind Auditions. Her team members include the aforementioned Martin and Keck; the Sheer Element trio; Holly Brand; Katie Beth Forakis; Marcos Covos; JB Somers; D. Smooth; Rachel Christine; and ALi.
