Kelsea Ballerini Had the Whole Voice Audience Sing Happy Birthday to Her Boyfriend
The Voice studio audience can sing!
Kelsea Ballerini takes her girlfriend duties as seriously as her Coach duties. During the first round of Knockouts on The Voice Season 27, the newbie Coach asked the audience to help her wish her boyfriend, actor Chase Stokes, a happy birthday with a special video. And they were only too happy to help.
Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé sang "Happy Birthday" to Chase Stokes on The Voice
Between Artist performances on the March 31 episode, Ballerini told the crowd that it happened to be her boyfriend's birthday, and recorded a video of herself, fellow Coach Michael Bublé, and the audience singing "Happy Birthday" to him. Looks like everyone is Team Chase!

Ballerini wasn't always sure she necessarily wanted to be the kind of person who makes big, public birthday videos for her boyfriends. Talking to TODAY's Willie Geist in October 2024, she reflected on the higher profile she's reached thanks to her relationship with the Outer Banks actor. "I'm not used to the interest in me as a person," Ballerini confessed. "I was used to being the girl that sings 'Peter Pan' for people, and I loved that role, but as far as the floodgates that opened up as far as human me — girl me — it's different now. And so, I'm still getting my footing on how to share things and what I share and my relationship and all that stuff."
As for Stokes, he wants whatever Ballerini wants. "I think the beautiful thing about being with an artist [like Stokes] is that it also equates to being with a truth-teller," Ballerini said. "When I got into this relationship, I hadn't put out [EP Rolling Up The Welcome Mat] yet, and I remember I sent that EP to him, and I just said, 'Hey, you're gonna ask eventually, so I'm just gonna go ahead and give this to you,' and he lifted that record up and supported it and stood side-stage the whole time. That takes someone who really celebrates truth-telling and believes in the person that's doing it."
Now, fans can hear her side of their love story on Ballerini's latest album, Patterns. "I would argue that [Patterns] is the most love-filled record I've ever made," Ballerini told Teen Vogue. "I think the presence of love in every song is at the forefront."

"'First Rodeo' is the first love song I wrote for Chase," she later explained on TODAY. "Really, it's essentially the first song where it's kind of like, 'OK, I feel a little fragile, I feel a little scared to open myself up to the capacity that I want to, but I love love, and I really love you.'"
