American Idol judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood faced off in a heated edition of the Name That Song Challenge on the March 5 episode of The Tonight Show.

How to Watch

Watch The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC weeknights at 11:35/10:35c and next day on Peacock

Bryan and Richie competed against Underwood and Jimmy Fallon,, as the two teams tried to be the first to correctly guess random songs played by The Roots

When the game started, things were going in Fallon's favor, as The Tonight Show Host nailed the first song — "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper — racking up a point for him and Underwood. But Bryan and Richie caught up when took the next round by correctly guessing "ABC" by The Jackson 5.

"I'm useless here, somehow," joked Underwood.

Billie Eilish's "Birds of a Feather" was the third number, and while it took a little longer for him to get it, it finally came to Fallon — with Underwood correctly guessing the following song, "The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News.

Lionel Richie won "Name That Song" by guessing one of his own hits

Richie stole the next round, identifying "Barracuda" as The Roots rocked out with the classic Heart track.

"Teamwork makes the dream work," gloated Bryan.

"This is the closest game we've ever played," said Fallon, whose team with Underwood was leading by one point.

"Wait, hold it, hold it," said Richie, out of breath. "I'm sweating! I've never worked this hard," he continued, taking out a hanky to dab his forehead.

After another incorrect guess by Underwood — she mistook "On the Road Again" for "Walkin' on Sunshine" — the teams were tied.

"Final song. This is worth 10,000 points," announced Fallon. "It's anyone's game."

The stakes were high and the stress levels higher, but it didn't take long for Richie to figure out the tune — probably because was one of his biggest hits, "All Night Long (All Night)."

Naturally, the singer had to lead everyone in a sing-along of his 1983 dance single. Forget "Dancing on the Ceiling," this heated game had Richie dancing around The Tonight Show stage.

Lionel Richie calls fellow American Idol judge Carrie Underwood "a jukebox"

After competing in the Name That Song Challenge, the American Idol trio sat down with Fallon, and during their conversation, Fallon asked what it was like having Underwood as a fellow judge.

"Let me tell you why I thought we were going to lose [Name That Song]," said Richie, as he pointed to Underwood and called her "a jukebox."

"She knows every song that the contestants are singing," he continued. "So it's not fair that they start singing, and she starts singing. I go, 'Carrie, they're competing, it's not you! You already won.'"
