It seems you can take the Coach out of The Voice, but you can't take The Voice out of the Coach.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Blake Shelton — one of the most beloved members of the show's revolving panel of four Coaches and husband of returning Coach Gwen Stefani — simply couldn't stay away from the hit NBC competition series Monday evening when he made a surprise guest "appearance" during the Season 24 premiere.

Blake Shelton's surprise "appearance" in Season 24 premiere of The Voice

Well, technically speaking, it was just pre-recorded snippets of Blake's voice that Niall Horan had ready at the push of a button while trying to woo country singer contestant Jordan Rainer over to his team. Every time Coach Reba McEntire tried to make her case, Horan hilariously called Shelton to his aid with phrases like "Niall is like a son to me," "Niall is a global superstar," "Niall is an attractive guy," and "There's something super charming about Niall."

"How much did you pay him?" demanded an exasperated McEntire, who eventually decided to commandeer Horan's chair and block his Blake Shelton button with her Queen of Country scepter. In the end, however, Rainer chose Reba. After all, both musicians hail from the same area of Oklahoma.

Blake Shelton's "Pick Me" foam finger strikes back

About an hour later, when all four Coaches were vying for the allegiance of Mara Justine in a coveted Four-Chair Turn scenario, Horan revealed that he had inherited Shelton's cheeky "Pick Me" foam finger ploy from last season. The bright-red prop, which was suddenly lowered down from the rafters, had Blake's name crossed out in what appeared to be magic marker.

"What is happening?" Coach John Legend asked. "You're shameless," Reba added. While Horan tried to claim that Blake wanted to "pass the baton" over to him, Stefani countered the argument, citing intimate knowledge of her spouse. "That is such a lie! He's a liar!" she assured Justine. "My husband is Blake Shelton, he did not do that. I promise."

Horan stuck to his guns, purporting that Shelton taught him "how to do absolutely anything to make sure that you get a team member." He even went so far as to get down on his knees and beg. Legend, on the other hand, made a super-compelling case for himself by inviting Mara to sing a duet of "All of Me" right there on the spot.

Who she'll pick as her Coach will be revealed in tomorrow night's episode.
