Why Post Malone Now Does Country Music (DETAILS)
The musician is a performer at NBC's Opry 100: A Live Celebration.
When Post Malone burst onto the scene, then gaining popularity in the mid-2000s, the star leaned heavily into hip-hop. However in 2025, his songs are undeniably more country than anything else. What made Post Malone pivot into country music?
The answer is more straightforward than fans think!
Why did Post Malone pivot into country music?
Thanks to hits like "White Iverson" and "Rockstar," Post Malone found success as a rapper early in his career. But as it turns out, the Texas-born star was always a country boy at heart!
In a 2017 interview with Vice Canada, he revealed that his upbringing in Texas heavily influenced his love for the genre.
"My love of country music came from my mom," he confessed. "Whenever I was a little kid, a little niño, my mom would always play country in the car. Johnny Cash influenced me a lot. He's a great storyteller."

Fans who go down the YouTube rabbit hole will undoubtedly find a few old clips of a fresh-faced Post Malone covering classic country songs before he "made it big." So, although he made a name for himself as a rapper, it's safe to say his true passion has always been the soul that resonates in country songs.
If you search hard enough, you can find a video of a young Post Malone covering Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." (No tears were shed, however.)
Post Malone predicted his transition into country
Based on a 2015 social media post, it seems like transitioning into country was the plan all along. He called his shot!
"WHEN I TURN 30 IM BECOMING A COUNTRY/FOLK SINGER," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. That's a big statement to make, especially on the heels of the unexpected success of the rap track "White Iverson."
