What is How the Grinch Stole Christmas about?
Based on the 1957 book by Dr. Seuss, whose real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel, the story follows a cold-hearted grouchy green creature called the Grinch who lives with his dog Max, high above the cozy town of Whoville on Mount Crumpit. Because his heart is too small, the Grinch is angered by the town's Christmas celebrations, and disguises himself as Santa to steal all their presents, decorations, food and the holiday itself. Only the innocence of a child, Cindy Lou Who, can help him see the magic of the holiday and make his heart grow three sizes.

Carrey has said that he's "so gratified" to be part of the legacy of this classic Christmas story. "Growing up, there were movies like It's a Wonderful Life ... and of course I watched The Grinch cartoon. These are staples that every year, that's just Christmas you know?" Carrey told Extra in 2024. "How it happened, my gosh, I don't know, but I'm so gratified by the idea that's one of the yule logs people go to. When it pops up every year, I'm really happy about it, it's a lovely thing."
