Fans have already been on an emotional ride in Season 23 after saying goodbye to long-time District Attorney Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) in a powerful send-off last month. Tony Goldwyn took the reins as the new District Attorney Nicholas Baxter earlier this month.

Season 24 is sure to have the same ripped-from-the-headlines storylines, complex legal cases and heartfelt personal stories fans have come to know and love.

Here’s everything we know so far about the 2024-2025 season of Law & Order.

Who will be in the Law & Order Season 24 cast?

Maura Tierney was cast as a series regular for Season 24 of Law & Order and play a lieutenant.

In Season 23, Detective Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks), Detective Vincent Riley (Reid Scott), and Lt. Kate Dixon (Camryn Manheim) worked the investigations in the police precinct, while Baxter, Executive Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) and ADA Samantha Maroun (Odelya Halevi) handled the legal aspects of each case.

A combined trailer for Law & Order Season 24 and Law & Order: SVU Season 26 shows Tierney's lieutenant in action.

She's seen telling Detectives Shaw and Riley in one scene, "I'm your new lieutenant. I don't need you to like me. I need you to listen to me."

What happened in Season 23 of Law & Order

Police and prosecutors have had their fair share of challenges as they navigate new relationships, complicated cases and unconventional suspects.

On the police side, Shaw and Riley are still navigating their new partnership after Riley transferred into the precinct at the start of the season. The divorced dad was on the heels of a six-month suspension for punching a police captain — although he had a fairly good reason for the blow.

As Dixon explained, the captain in question called her “something he shouldn’t have” when Riley, who was struggling with his own personal issues at home, stepped in to defend her honor.

“He threw a punch for me, who does that? And as stupid and as reckless as it was, I appreciate what he did,” Dixon said.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office had its own dramatic shake-up when McCoy announced he’d tendered his resignation. McCoy made the noble decision to step away from the prosecutor’s office after clashing with the mayor about how to proceed in a high-profile murder case. Despite the mayor’s wishes to back off the case, McCoy was determined to get justice and stepped into the courtroom one last time to successfully argue the case himself before stepping away to minimize the fallout from his decision for the rest of the office.

His legacy is still being felt by Price, who has struggled to fall in step with the new DA

Baxter, who comes from a politically connected family, has already made it clear he plans to mend fences with the mayor’s office.

“A top priority of mine is gonna be to get people back on the same page,” he told Price in their first sit-down together. “This office is part of a system and that system works most effectively when it works together, especially when it comes to my senior staff. I need to know that I have a team I can trust.”

Where can I watch Law & Order
