See Why Rudi’s “Insane” 4-Chair Audition Made Niall Horan Block John Legend
On The Voice, you have to use your Blocks carefully.
The Block button is a handy little tool that's been part of The Voice for the last 10 seasons. Use it right and you get the chance to Coach greatness. Use it wrong and...well, you still might get the chance, unless the singer in question is a big fan of a different Coach.
Near the end of Season 24, Episode 3, the Coaches met Rudi, a singer from San Antonio, Texas who's spent the last few months working at her family's auto shop because singing was no longer paying the bills. With The Voice, Rudi had a shot to make her musical dreams come true, and she definitely didn't waste it.

Taking the stage in a dazzling denim outfit, Rudi (who says all of her musical gifts come from her late grandfather, a singer and guitarist who died the year she was born) launched into Lesley Gore's classic hit "You Don't Own Me" and quickly made the often-covered song her own. It didn't take long for the chairs to start turning, with Coach Gwen Stefani spinning around almost immediately to watch the full performance.

The other Coaches took a little longer, as John Legend, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire waited to hear Rudi hit some high notes. By the end of the performance, all four chairs had turned, with one twist: Horan blocked Legend from coaching Rudi, and he wasn't shy about boasting over it. The antics were enough to prompt McEntire to apologize on behalf of her fellow Coaches before launching into praise for the singer.
"When I was looking the other way, you really convinced me you meant that," she said. "You are very persuasive when you're singing. I love a story song. I love a song that when I listen to it, it touches my heart. And you're a great singer, and you touched my heart. That's a true gift, and you have it."
"It's really amazing to hear someone that is so on control," Stefani said. "And then on top of that I was so blessed that I turned around quickly because of my great instinct, because I got to see you too, and you really know how to work the stage, and you've got amazing style, and you're gorgeous. I think I need to be your Coach. Don't you think that me and you could like, rule the world?"

Rudi replied, "I'm not gonna lie, I'm literally such a huge fan of yours."
Ultimately, Rudi went Team Gwen, rendering Horan's Block useless. Let's see if this duo can take it to the end!
