Suits fam: Don’t spoil it for Suits LA. actor Stephen Amell!

How to Watch

Watch the series premiere of Suits: L.A. on Sunday, February 23 at 9/8c on NBC.

The actor admitted in a recent interview that he had never seen an episode of Suits before he was cast as the lead in Suits LA. The pilot order of the hotly anticipated spinoff will begin filming in April, with Amell playing the main character, Ted Black, a New York prosecutor who reinvents himself in the City of Angels. The actor was quick to add, however, that he has been binge-watching the legal drama with the rest of the world, which broke streaming records in 2023.

“I’m really excited,” he enthused to Deadline. “I’ve also really been enjoying the show. I hadn’t seen the original, and I’m familiarizing myself because I think certain shows, they’ll have a syntax to them. But big fan and just glad I get to be a part of the world."

What else did Stephen Amell say about Suits LA

It’s been a minute since the original USA Network series ended in 2019 after nine seasons. For its legions of fans, the excellent news is that much of the original team is behind Suits: LA, once again bringing that “syntax” and glossy style that made the show such a hit in the first place.

When asked by Deadline how it felt to be working on one of the most “buzzed about” shows of 2024, Amell specifically called out show creator, Aaron Korsh.

“Well, first and foremost, Aaron Korsh, who created the original Suits, he’s back with his same producing partners, same writers, I think some of the same crew, certainly same costume designer. So it’s going to have that Suits feel,” Amell shared.

It would be hard to imagine a Suits spinoff without Korsh’s involvement. Before he was a Hollywood script-writer and show creator, he attended Wharton Business School and worked as an investment banker on Wall Street. The main character, Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams), a troubled but brilliant attorney with a photographic memory, is loosely based on Korsh’s own experiences at Wharton, according to the Daily Beast.

What did Stephen Amell Say About his Suits LA Casting?

Amell is best known for his lead role as Oliver Queen in CW’s superhero series Arrow. The Canadian actor admits he was far from a shoo-in to play the lead on Suits LA and was cast after attending his first in-person audition in eight years.

“I went into it without a ton of expectations because you never know what they’re going to be looking for. But the script is great. The cast… is really excellent,” he said.

Indeed, the cast is full of sensational talent such as Josh McDermitt (who co-stars as Stuart Lane) and Lex Scott Davis, who plays rising star attorney Erica Rollins. McDermitt is perhaps best known for his longtime role as Dr. Eugene Porter on The Walking Dead, and Davis found fame playing Toni Braxton in the R&B singer's biopic, Unbreak My Heart

There’s no word yet on whether any of the original cast will reprise their roles in the spinoff, but many have dropped big hints that they’re more than happy to return. In the meantime, Amell is just excited to be a part of the Suits momentum, and he’s focusing on how to do the pilot justice.

“So I’m trying to focus on what is directly in front of me, and what’s directly in front of me is a pilot script with more words per page than I have said in my entire career, by a factor of five. I’m just going to be a bit of a nervous wreck until we actually get on set and start shooting, which is in just about 27 days. Whatever, who’s counting?”
