Jack Black Is Will Ferrell & Rachel Dratch's Intense Friend in SNL's Love-Ahs Sketch
The actor joined the erotic world of Roger and Virginia Klarvin when he made his SNL hosting debut in 2002.
As Saturday Night Live's Roger and Virginia Klarvin — aka "the Love-Ahs" — Will Ferrell and Rachel Dratch made a sport out of coming onto everyone who crossed their path. But when Jack Black entered their erotic universe, his character wasn't weirded out at all: He played an equally-spicy pal of theirs in a hilarious sketch from 2002.
Before the Kung Fu Panda actor returns to host SNL for his first time in 20 years on April 5 with Musical Guests Elton John and Brandi Carlile, this sketch from his debut episode certainly deserves a rewatch. Not only is the incredibly descriptive writing top-notch; you'll never pronounce the word "banjo" the same again.

Jack Black played an equally spicy friend of Roger and Virginia Klarvin in SNL’s “Mountaintop Luvahs” sketch
When Black hosted Saturday Night Live for his first time on January 19, 2002, the Emmy-winning actor joined one of SNL’s most memorable recurring sketches as William Mark Jasper, Roger and Virginia Klarvin’s après-ski lover.
In SNL’s “Mountaintop Luvahs” sketch, Ferrell and Dratch reprised their roles as the ravenous Klarvins, who delight in discussing their lovemaking with strangers. This time, it was Julie and Mike (cast members Amy Poehler and Chris Kattan), two other guests at staying at Bear Claw Lodge.
“Excuse me, I was wondering, is there room for two more lovers at hearth's edge?” Roger says to Mike and Julie, who are sitting by the fireplace and invite the Klarvins to join them.
“Ah, nothing caps off a day of skiing better than a warm fire, a cup of mulled wine, and the heat projected from my lover’s loin space,” Virginia coos.
“Nature has no hotter furnace, eh lover?” Roger responds, massaging Virginia’s shoulders and passionately kissing her on the cheek.

Mike and Julie try to change the subject, but the Klarvins let them in on all the amorous perks of the ski lodge. “My lover and I frequent Bear Claw Lodge during cold months. We find the four-poster beds, downy pillows, and wide availability of adult cable channels absolutely perfect for winter lovemaking,” Roger says, adding that the “highlight” is a midnight roast-goose fondue hosted by the inn’s proprietor, William Mark Jasper.
“Are you telling my new guests about the midnight feast?” Black's character William chimes, entering the sketch (and sounding just as sensual as the Klarvins).
“On Saturday at midnight, we all gather here at hearth’s space and wait eagerly to dip hunks of goose meat into sputtering pots of hot oil,” William tells his new guests. “With bellies engorged, guests trundle up to their respective rooms, the goose fat shining off their faces serving to lubricate hot lovers’ kisses.”
William recalls how he met Roger and Virginia on the slopes 20 years ago, placing an odd but very funny emphasis on certain words.
“I was playing the banjo in one of the local taverns and I must confess I was slightly tipsy for I had more than my share of cointreau,” he says. “A young woman approached me dressed in an elven cloak speaking in a British accent.”
“I was into role playing at the time,” Virginia explains.
“She asked me if I would play banjo for her in privacy. We came back to a room at this very inn and the flickerings from my fingers soon wandered from the curves of the banjo to the curves of Virginia…” William says as he straddles his lover and Roger rubs his leg.
Alone by the fireplace after Mike and Julie seize the first opportunity to leave, Virginia and Roger get a little too heated up. “I’m on fire!” Roger screams, losing his accent completely. “I’m actually on fire! Are you stupid? Get the hell off me!” Ah, romance.
