Alicia Keys and John Legend's Cover of "Let It Be" Is Really Something Special

"It's a song that's comforted generations," Legend said about the classic Beatles tune before the performance.

By Jackie Manno

In 2014, two Coaches from The Voice  got together to honor one of the greatest bands of all time. John Legend and Alicia Keys joined forces onstage to perform a moving rendition of "Let It Be" during a special titled The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to The Beatles.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

The performance started out with Legend and Keys sitting on opposite sides of a duel piano, playing simultaneously. They crooned the first part of the verses separately before singing the chorus in unison. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr nodded in appreciation from the audience while Legend and Keys interpreted the peaceful lyrics with their own unique vocal flair.

About "Let It Be" by The Beatles

A single off the band's final 1970 album of the same name, "Let It Be" rose to the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Written by Paul McCartney, he got his inspiration from the song when he was visited by his mother named Mary in a dream during a troubling time in his life. Now considered to be one of the band's signature tracks, Rolling Stone listed it as the eighth best Beatles song of all time in 2020.
