John Legend Reveals the Personal Way He First Sang "All of Me" to Chrissy Teigen
The Voice Coach's career-changing hit song turned 10 earlier in August.
To mark the 10-year anniversary of John Legend's gorgeous ballad "All of Me," he made an Instagram post chronicling the emotional journey he's had with the song.
Released in 2013 and reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the romantic lyrics for "All of Me" were written for Legend's now-wife, Chrissy Teigen. In the Instagram post, Legend revealed the moving story and artistic inspiration behind the tune.
"This is a special season for me and my loved ones. This September, Chrissy and I will celebrate 10 years of marriage and building our family together," he explained to fans.
Legend continued, "As I look back on 2013, the year we got married, it was also a beautiful time creatively for me. Inspired by the love of my life, I was writing and recording my fourth studio album, Love in the Future, and was declaring it 'a new year for love.'"
He then went on to describe the creative process of making the album Love in the Future and how much it meant to him, particularly "All of Me."
"Of course, the most impactful song was the one I sang at our wedding reception: 'All of Me,'" he said.
Legend dished on the personal way he initially played the song for Teigen: "The first time I sang it for Chrissy, I whispered it into her ear and she cried."
Everyone around Legend saw the potential for "All of Me," and it later turned out to be one of his most successful songs ever. Nowadays, the track is frequently danced to at weddings, something Legend is deeply moved by.
"I am so grateful for what this song has meant to my life but also for what it's meant to you," he wrote in his post.
