A wide range of musical legends join Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels for Kings from Queens: The RUN DMC Story.

Two turntables and a microphone in the hands of three kids from Queens, New York would forever change the hip-hop genre, and the tale of their rise to from ambitious youngsters to music icons is getting the Peacock treatment with Kings from Queens: The RUN DMC Story.

What is Kings from Queens: The RUN DMC Story?

Premiering Thursday, February 1, 2024, on Peacock — Kings from Queens chronicles the rise of pioneering hip hop musicians Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and the late Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell. The docuseries, which will feature never-before-told stories and archival footage, examines how the trio formed RUN DMC in the streets of Hollis, Queens, in New York City in the 1980s and later redefined a musical genre once predicted to be little more than a fad.

Not only would the members of RUN DMC grow to be international stars with hits like “It’s Tricky” and “Walk This Way,” but their “influence on culture shattered racial barriers” across the decades, according to the series press release.

Kings from Queens sees Simmons and McDaniels reunite, giving viewers a front-row seat into the triumphs and trials of RUN DMC, including the 2002 murder of their beloved D.J., Jam Master Jay.

“This documentary series will reach, teach, and educate people on the RUN DMC dynamic,” said McDaniels, who is also executive producer. “I know people will see themselves in our journey, and I am hopeful that the next 50 years of Hip Hop will be a movement of positive improvement and creativity, in the same way we changed music and the world.”

Audiences can expect some legendary appearances

The official trailer (watch above) boasts a wide cast of hip-hop and rap legends, there to testify of RUN DMC’s formidable influence in the music industry and celebrate how they established an entire genre. Fans can plan to see Ice-T, LL COOL J, MC Lyte, Jermaine Dupri, Ice Cube, Questlove, Beastie Boys, Chuck D., Salt, Tom Morello, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Ed Lover, and more.

Simmons, also an executive producer on Kings from Queens, said he is “very happy” that the world will have the chance to see their story.

“So thankful for all that participated in helping us over the years,” Simmons stated. “I started out as a young D.J. Run and ended up impacting the world with my group RUN DMC; I am blessed to have been on this amazing journey.”

William H. Masterson III, Brian Hunt, Dan Goodman, Michael Lehman, and Erik Blamoville join RUN DMC’s Simmons and McDaniels as executive producers. Kirk Fraser directs. The series is produced by Believe Entertainment Group.

Kings from Queens: The RUN DMC Story will consist of three one-hour episodes, all of which premiere on Thursday, February 1, 2024, exclusively on Peacock.
